Petru Iuga
He was born in 1974 in Romania. He started playing violin at the age of twelve. Two years later he decided to play double base. He studied at the "George Enescu" Music Academy in Bucharest with Prof. Ion Cheptea.
He received a scholarship for a two year study at the International Music Academy in Gstaad in Switzerland, on recommendation of Lord Yehudi Menuhin, where he studied with Alberto Lysy, among others. Petru Iuga continued his studies at the Bern Music Academy with Prof. B.Szedlak.
He studied at the Conservatoire de Music et de Danse in Paris with J.P.Celea, having received a scholarship from the Fondation Meyer. In 2002 he graduated, receiving a masters degree (3eme cycle). Petru Iuga is a prize winner of many national and international competitions.
He received 1st prizes both at the International Double Bass Competition in Marktneukirchen, Germany (1999) and at the Capbreton International Double Bass Competition, in France (2000). Petru Iuga appeared as a soloist with the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Chamber Orchestra in Bukarest, the Camerata Lysy Gstaad, the Bern Chamber Orchestra, the Odessa Chamber Orchestra, the Vogtland Philharmony and the Musikkollegium Bern.
He performed at various European music festivals, such as the Halle Music Festival (Germany), the Festival de Vezere (France) and the International Double Bass Festival in Capbreton (France).
After he became teaching assistant at the Bern Music Academy in 2002, he was appointed in 2004 professor for double bass at the Trossingen Music Academy in Germany. Since 2005 he is a principal double bass in the Munich Chamber Orchestra under Christoph Poppen.
